Local Ecology and You

How to Strengthen the Environment around You

On the 1st of July, 2020 we launched a new series of WebinarWednesdays titled “Local Ecology & You” with our guest speakers Dr. Abdul Ghani founder of  The Tree Ambulance, Chennai and Varun Ravindra of  Vanantara, Bangalore.

The session was hosted by Jacob Cherian, with Divya Narayan as the chat manager. The slides were handled by Chiku Agarwal. The aim of the 1-hour session was to  share the panelists’ knowledge with the audience on how anyone  can help safeguard the trees in their neighbourhood and to strengthen local ecology by planting the right trees..
You can view the  answers to the remaining questions, Slides and session recording on youtube.
 Note audience questions included:
  • What is the legal procedure to protest the cutting of trees for broadening of roads in the locality?
  • I’m an architecture student. I want to  know how far from a tree does one build a structure to avoid hurting its branches or roots in future. How far away from a forest can we build a structure?

This was the first interactive session on tree plantation and protection initiative which helped the audience to get knowledge on:
  • The types of species that can be grown which will help them to maintain ecology.
  • Illegal cutting should be reported to nearby police stations or municipality bodies.
  • Community tree plantation can be done to safeguard nature.

Keep joining us for future sessions which will help us to empower  progressive citizens to take an active part in our democracy, and thus enable our vision of a more equitable, inclusive and sustainable India.
