Bengaluru has been facing an unprecedented water crisis for more than two months now, with residents grappling with dwindling water sources and erratic supply. In the face of this daunting challenge, recent developments offer a glimmer of hope as authorities and stakeholders work towards sustainable solutions!

While the onus rests onus as individuals to ensure we’re using water and its resources judiciously, the BWSSB has undertaken some decisions to ensure such a situation is not repeated

Steps in the right direction

On April 2, 2024, the BWSSB announced plans to supply recycled water for construction work, aiming to reduce the city’s dependency on borewells. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to promote sustainable water management practices in Bengaluru.

Building on this momentum, BWSSB Chairman Ramprasath Manohar V unveiled a comprehensive strategy on April 8, 2024, to address water scarcity issues. The strategy includes a 10% reduction in water supply for heavy users and measures to encourage prudent water usage among consumers. As part of this initiative, BWSSB will maximize the utilization of treated water and implement rainwater harvesting systems across the city.

Further bolstering these efforts, on April 13, 2024, BWSSB entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bangalore Apartment Federation (BAF). Under this agreement, BWSSB will assist apartment complexes in selling their excess treated water, providing a sustainable alternative to traditional water sources.

These interconnected initiatives will significantly improve the water situation in India’s silicon valley and avert similar crises in the future!

If you haven’t taken action already, we urge you to sign the petition and demand long term solutions.
